Role: Art Director
Projects: Editorial Design & Media Kit Redesign

Biweekly Editorial Design

Services: Editorial Art Direction, Illustration & Photography Commissioning, Cross-Platform Publishing

Science News is a nationally distributed, award-winning magazine delivering the latest in scientific discovery every two weeks. As Art Director, I led the visual development of each issue, ensuring creative cohesion across print, tablet, and web.

Key responsibilities:

  • Commissioned custom illustrations and photography for every issue

  • Directed in-house and external shoots, including a full studio session for the Nano Bites cover

  • Mentored design staff and standardized workflows—improving turnaround time by 20% and reducing revisions by 40%

  • Maintained consistent visual standards across biweekly publishing cycles and platforms

Each issue balanced journalistic integrity with striking, reader-friendly design, resulting in a product that informed and delighted in equal measure.

Media Kit Redesign

Services: Digital Collateral Design, UX Optimization, Revenue Enablement

The original Science News media kit was outdated and print-based, limiting the publication’s ability to engage new advertising partners. I led a complete overhaul to create a digital-first, interactive product that better reflected the magazine’s audience and impact.

My approach:

  • Reimagined the layout for visual clarity and digital navigation

  • Highlighted key metrics, audience insights, and placement opportunities through infographic-driven storytelling

  • Designed for scalability, easy updates, and multi-device access

Results:

  • Attracted 50+ new advertisers within 9 months of launch

  • Generated over $250,000 in new ad revenue

  • Boosted brand recall and elevated perception with ad partners
